Known problems with the 2008–2017 Enclave
Engine — Timing Chain 2008–2012
Premature timing chain stretch on the 3.6L LY7/LLT. Symptoms are a rattle on cold start, rough idle, power loss and cam/crank correlation codes P0008/P0016/P0017/P0018; a chain that jumps teeth can destroy the engine. GM attributed a large share of it to the original Oil Life Monitor calibration permitting excessively long oil change intervals, which degraded the oil feeding the hydraulic tensioners. Addressed via multiple TSBs, a revised chain design, updated OLM software, and Special Coverage program #11340 extending coverage to 10 years / 120,000 miles.
Transmission — 6T75 3-5-R Wave Plate 2008–2011
Fracture of the 3-5-Reverse wave plate inside the 6-speed automatic. The vehicle abruptly loses 3rd gear, 5th gear and Reverse — it revs without moving or feels like it is slipping. Requires transmission teardown; the single most notorious driveline failure of this generation.
Fuel System — High Pressure Fuel Pump (direct Injection) 2009–2012
HPFP and direct-injection fueling faults on the LLT, often surfacing alongside the timing chain wear because both are driven off the camshafts.
